Bosnia and Herzegovina, with its more than 70 peaks over 2,000 meters high, now has a special place on the map of summer destinations. In its latest report, the Times highlighted Via Dinarica as one of the ten most desirable locations for a mountain holiday in Europe.
The spectacular Sutjeska National Park, with the highest peak Maglić at 2,386 meters, is the key point of this route that stretches through the Bosnian part of the Via Dinarica. The recommended route includes Sarajevo and Mostar with the surrounding mountains, and locations in Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia.
This adventure requires six to eight hours of walking each of the nine days, covering fifty kilometers of the route.
In addition, the recommendation to visit Dubrovnik additionally completes this unforgettable mountain experience.
Zelena linija Via Dinarice sprema se da se pridruži redovima evropskog certifikata 'Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe' (LQT). Ova certifikacija, koju je uspostavila Evropska pješačka asocijacija (ERA), služi kao transparentan sistem koji ima za cilj unapređenje i promociju održivog pješačkog turizma.
LQT certifikacija osigurava kvalitet zasnovan na evropskim standardima, čiji su prioritet želje i potrebe planinara. Izbor staze mora, prije svega, poštovati princip održivosti, a posebna pažnja je usmjerena i na zaštitu prirode i kontinuirano održavanje staza.
S fokusom na promociju održivog pješačkog turizma, LQT certifikat nudi brojne prednosti i za turiste i za regiju. Osim što poboljšava ukupnu infrastrukturu za hodanje, pruža i marketinšku prednost regionu.
Inspekcijom Zelene linije Via Dinarice, koju je obavilo obučeno osoblje, procijenjeno je 320,6 kilometara staze u skladu sa LQT kriterijima. Pregled je rađen s težnjom da staza privuče planinare iz cijele Evrope i svijeta.
U svjetlu ove analize, u toku su planovi za poboljšanje staze kako bi se osigurala usklađenost sa LQT standardima. Ovo predstavlja značajan korak ka podizanju profila Zelene linije i njenom pozicioniranju kao vrhunske destinacije za održivi pješački turizam.
U očekivanju certifikacije, Zelena linija Via Dinarice sprema se da postane prva LQT certifikovana staza na Zapadnom Balkanu, nudeći privlačnu ponudu za sve ljubitelje vanjskih aktivnosti.
Planinarski dom Rujište ponovno je otvoren za posjetitelje. Otvorenje doma održano je u subotu, 17. februara.
Osim novog izgleda, proširena je i ponuda aktivnosti za goste. Sada posjetitelji mogu uživati u raznim aktivnostima kao što su planinarenje, kanjoning, biciklizam, sportsko penjanje i off road ture.
Na otvorenju je poslužen besplatan grah i čaj, pružajući toplu dobrodošlicu posjetiteljima.
Radno vrijeme doma je od petka od 18:00 sati do nedjelje do 20:00 sati, a po dogovoru dom se može otvoriti i drugim danima.
Planinarski dom Rujište se nalazi na sedlu između dvije planine, Prenj i Velež, na 1050mnv. Dom okružuje šuma endemske vrste bora, munike, koja daje najkvalitetniji kisik u ovom dijelu Evrope.
Danas je u Sarajevu završena četverodnevna obuka za avanturističke vodiče koja je organizirana u sklopu prekograničnog projekta Via Dinarica: Zelena staza iznad granica.
Obuka je usmjerena na održivi razvoj turizma na zapadnom Balkanu, s naglaskom na izvrsnosti u vođenju avanturističkih tura. Interaktivan pristup poticao je dijaloge, a radionice su omogućile analizu stvarnih scenarija i donošenje informisanih odluka.
Obuka je ne samo prenosila znanje već i inspirirala kontinuirani rast učesnika, potičući ih da prate industrijske trendove i usavršavaju vještine. Cilj je bio stvoriti dobro zaokružene vodiče koji mogu osigurati sigurnost, uživanje i edukativnu vrijednost u avanturističkim turama.
Obuka za vođenje avanturističkih tura ne samo da odgovara na trenutnu potrebu za kvalifikovanim vodičima duž Via Dinarica staze, već i gradi zajednicu predanu stalnom učenju i izvrsnosti u vođenju avanturističkih tura.
Projekat "Via Dinarica: Zelena staza iznad granica" realizuje se u okviru IPA II Programa prekogranične saradnje Srbija - Bosna i Hercegovina 2014 - 2020, a koji sufinansira Evropska unija, dok je tijelo za ugovaranje Ministarstvo finansija – Sektor za ugovaranje i finansiranje programa iz sredstava Evropske unije. Jučer je na Mokroj Gori završena višednevna obuka za avanturističke vodiče (Adventure Guides) u okviru prekograničnog projekta Via Dinarica: Zelena staza iznad granica. Predstavnici turističkih agencija i organizacija, planinarskih društava, specijalizovanih udruženja i upravljača zaštićenih područa sa teritorije zapadne Srbije koju pokriva program stekli su potrebna teorijska i praktična znanja za planiranje i organizacije jednodnevnih i višednevnih avanturističkih tura sa krajnjim ciljem da se nadmaše očekivanja posjetilaca kroz pružanje vrhunskog iskustva i dodatnih vrijednosti.
Posjetioci Via Dinarica staza žele da istraže netaknutu prirodu, kulturu, historiju i tradiciju prekograničnog područja što se u potpunosti može doživjeti samo sa profesionalnim vodičima. Aktivni turizam često podrazumijeva opasne situacije i aktivnosti, tako da avanturistički vodič istovremeno mora biti sportista, meteorolog, diplomata, pripovjedač, ljekar, animator ili ekolog i od njega najviše zavisi kakve utiske i iskustva će posjetioci ponijeti sa sobom. Kako bi se polaznici pripremili za ovu ulogu, profesionalni avanturistički vodiči iz Bosne i Hercegovine prenijeli su konkretna iskustva i primjere dobre prakse koji se mogu korisiti u pozicioniranju Via Dinarice: Zelene staze kao poželjne destinacije za ljubitelje aktivnosti na otvorenom.

The Zlatibor district, located in the western part of Serbia, continues to assert itself as an exceptional tourist destination, attracting an increasing number of visitors every year. In addition to traditional forms of tourism, such as mountain and spa, a significant growth in the field of ecotourism has been observed in recent years, and one of the key initiatives developing in the region is the Via Dinarica.
The development of the Via Dinarica trail in Serbia is still in its initial phase. The trail is not connected to routes in neighboring countries, nor is it included in the tourist offer of the Zlatibor region. Although the current situation is such, there is an obvious interest on the part of various actors, including managers of protected areas, mountaineering associations and local tourist organizations, to initiate the development of the Via Dinarica Green Trail in Serbia and to integrate it into the tourism offer of the Zlatibor region.
This enrichment of the tourist offer could attract a larger number of tourists who are interested in outdoor activities and exploring the natural beauty spots of the Zlatibor district.
A key component of the sustainability of the future trail is cooperation with the Mountaineering Association of Serbia and local clubs in the municipalities through which the route will pass. Their continuous and professional work will be necessary to maintain the high standards of quality and quantity of this unique tourist trail.
Considering the potential and interest that Via Dinarica brings to the Zlatibor district, we can expect that this initiative will further enrich the tourist offer of the region and attract travelers seeking natural beauty and adventure.
The project "Via Dinarica: The Green Path Across the Border" is implemented within the framework of the IPA II Cross-Border Cooperation Program Serbia - Bosnia and Herzegovina 2014 - 2020, which is co-financed by the European Union, while the contracting authority is the Ministry of Finance - Sector for Contracting and Program Financing from funds of the European Union. The project is jointly implemented by the Regional Development Agency Zlatibor from Užice, the Association Zemlja Dinarika from Sarajevo and the Municipality of Vareš.

We will dedicate this ascent to the celebration of the Via Dinarica weekend as well as to the celebration of the 12 Days of Peace, which the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) launched in 2019 by connecting two important international days: September 21 - International Day of Peace, with October 2 - on the International Day of Nonviolence.

Staza kreće od jezera Blidinje, ispod Junećeg kuka, proteže se do Velikog Vilinca (2.118 mnv), i spušta do planinarskog doma Vilinac na 1961 mnv, gdje možete da prespavate ili se odmorite kod ljubaznih domaćina iz PSD Vilinac Jablanica.
Dom je prvi put otvoren davne 1939. godine, a svoje treće otvorenje je doživio 16.10.2010.
Na samo pet minuta od doma nalazi se i kaptirani izvor Janjećak, gdje možete dopuniti svoje zalihe vode, a ujedno se i osvježiti.
Zanimljiv podatak jeste da samo na Čvrsnici, na visini iznad 2.000 mnv raste stenoendemska biljka zvana Mišuljica. Ukoliko upitate domara, možda Vam otkrije i njeno stanište.
A ukoliko se odlučite da prespavate u domu, i dok Vam domar sprema kafu/čaj ujutro, izađite ispred doma i uživajte u predivnom izlasku sunca sa pogledom na Pešti brdo, Veliki kuk koji je inače i najviša vertikalna stijena u BiH (oko 1.000 m), na greben Jelinka i najviši vrh Pločno na 2.228 mnv. Pločno je, inače, i najviši vrh Hercegovine.
Staza dalje ide ka Crljenku, jezeru na 2.000 mnv.
Nakon samo 15 minuta hoda od Crljenka, na magičnoj granici od 2.000 mnv, nalazi se geomorfološki spomenik prirode poznata Hajdučka vrata ili Mijatov prolaz ili kako su je zvali stočari sa Čvrsnice “Šuplja vrata”, a to je zapisao 1910. dr. Radivoj Simonović u “Sarajevskom listu”
Sa Hajdučkih vrata pruža se prekrasan pogled na kanjon Dive Grabovice, Mezića stijenu, Pešti brdo, Čabulju i Prenj.
Do Hajdučkih vrata vodi više planinarskih staza, neke su samo za spremne i iskusne planinare, kao što je uspon via ferratom Veliki kuk, a najlakši pristup je preko Vitlenice i Muvarnice gdje Vam do vrata treba oko 4 sata hoda u jednom smjeru.
Zbog same strukture i nastanka Hajdučkih vrata zabranjeno je penjanje. Ali zato posjetioci mogu uživati u prekrasnom pogledu na ovaj umjetnički spomenik prirode.

Poziv za podnošenje prijava za dodjelu bespovratnih sredstava je jedna od aktivnosti u okviru druge faze projekta Via Dinarica, koji implementira i sufinansira Razvojni program Ujedinjenih nacija u Bosni i Hercegovini (UNDP BiH), uz finansijsku podršku Agencije Sjedinjenih Američkih Država za međunarodni razvoj (USAID BiH) i Agencije za razvojnu saradnju Republike Italije (AICS). Druga faza ovog projekta se provodi u saradnji sa domaćim partnerima – Ministarstvom vanjske trgovine i ekonomskih odnosa Bosne i Hercegovine, Federalnim ministarstvom okoliša i turizma, Ministarstvom trgovine i turizma Republike Srpske, lokalnim vlastima, nevladinim i privatnim sektorom aktivnim u turizmu. Inicijativa Via Dinarica ima za cilj da promovira značajne prirodne i kulturne resurse područja Zapadnog Balkana, da omogući bavljenje avanturističkim aktivnostima ljubiteljima prirode iz cijelog svijeta te da očuva planinska područja, kulture i predjele koji predstavljaju oazu netaknute prirode u Evropi.
Ovaj javni poziv sufinansiraju Agencija Sjedinjenih Američkih Država za međunarodni razvoj (USAID BiH) i Agencija za razvojnu saradnju Republike Italije (AICS), a cilj mu je da doprinese poboljšanju ekonomskih prilika i životnog standarda duž staza Via Dinarice putem integracije domaćih proizvoda u turističku ponudu.
U skladu s gore navedenim, ovaj Javni poziv za podnošenje prijedloga projekata se odnosi na sljedeće 2 prioritetne oblasti:
Prioritetna oblast 1: Jačanje procesa proizvodnje i prerade proizvoda u cilju integracije/uključivanja domaćih, tradicionalnih proizvoda u turističku ponudu duž staza Via Dinarice unutar sljedećih jedinica lokalne samouprave: Centar Sarajevo, Gacko, Jablanica, Mrkonjić Grad, Posušje, Prijedor, Prozor-Rama, Ravno, Sokolac, Stolac i Tomislavgrad.
Prioritetna oblast 2: Jačanje prodajnih mjesta u cilju integracije/uključivanja domaćih, tradicionalnih proizvoda u turističku ponudu duž staza Via Dinarice unutar sljedećih jedinica lokalne samouprave: Prijedor.
Podnosilac prijave može podnijeti maksimalno jedan projektni prijedlog po svakoj prioritetnoj oblasti ovog javnog poziva.
Ukoliko podnosilac prijave dostavi više od jednog projektnog prijedloga po prioritetnoj oblasti, nijedan projektni prijedlog se neće uzeti u razmatranje.

Prioritetna oblast 1: Jačanje procesa proizvodnje i prerade proizvoda u cilju integracije/uključivanja domaćih, tradicionalnih proizvoda u turističku ponudu duž staza Via Dinarice unutar sljedećih jedinica lokalne samouprave: Bosanski Petrovac, Centar Sarajevo, Gacko, Jablanica, Kalinovik, Konjic, Mostar, Mrkonjić Grad, Posušje, Prijedor, Prozor-Rama, Ravno, Rudo, Sokolac, Stolac, Teslić, Tomislavgrad i Trebinje.
Prioritetna oblast 2: Jačanje prodajnih mjesta u cilju integracije/uključivanja domaćih, tradicionalnih proizvoda u turističku ponudu duž staza Via Dinarice unutar sljedećih jedinica lokalne samouprave: Konjic, Mostar, Prijedor, Sarajevo i Trebinje.
Po zatvaranju javnog poziva 7.4.2021. godine, zaprimljeno je ukupno 37 projektnih prijedloga. Nakon isteka roka za dostavljanje prijava izvršeno je komisijsko ocjenjivanje i bodovanje svih prijava po administrativnim, općim i kvalitativnim kriterijima javnog poziva. Na osnovu izvršenog ocjenjivanja zaprimljenih prijava i verifikacijskih posjeta na terenu, sačinjene su finalne rang liste prijava odabranih za finansiranje. Ukupno 21 projektni prijedlog (navedeni u tabelama iznad) prešao je bodovni prag i pozitivno ocijenjen tijekom verifikacijskih posjeta, koje su članovi Komisije za ocjenjivanje predložili za dodjelu bespovratnih sredstava. Također, ukupno 5 projektnih prijedloga nalazi se na rezervnoj listi za sufinansiranje.

UNAPREĐENJE TURISTIČKE PONUDE I USLUGA DUŽ STAZA VIA DINARICE U BOSNI I HERCEGOVINI
Poziv za podnošenje prijava za dodjelu bespovratnih sredstava je jedna od aktivnosti u okviru druge faze projekta Via Dinarica, koji implementira i sufinansira Razvojni program Ujedinjenih nacija u Bosni i Hercegovini (UNDP BiH), uz finansijsku podršku Agencije Sjedinjenih Američkih Država za međunarodni razvoj (USAID BiH) i Agencije za razvojnu saradnju Republike Italije (AICS). Druga faza ovog projekta se provodi u saradnji sa domaćim partnerima – Ministarstvom vanjske trgovine i ekonomskih odnosa Bosne i Hercegovine, Federalnim ministarstvom okoliša i turizma, Ministarstvom trgovine i turizma Republike Srpske, lokalnim vlastima, nevladinim i privatnim sektorom aktivnim u turizmu. Inicijativa Via Dinarica ima za cilj da promovira značajne prirodne i kulturne resurse područja Zapadnog Balkana, da omogući bavljenje avanturističkim aktivnostima ljubiteljima prirode iz cijelog svijeta te da očuva planinska područja, kulture i predjele koji predstavljaju oazu netaknute prirode u Evropi.
Ovaj javni poziv sufinansiraju USAID, AICS, Federalno ministarstvo okoliša i turizma i sljedeće jedinice lokalne samouprave na koje se ovaj poziv i odnosi: Bosanski Petrovac, Gacko, Jablanica, Mrkonjić Grad, Posušje, Prozor-Rama, Rudo, Sokolac i Teslić, a cilj mu je da dodatno doprinese razvoju inicijative Via Dinarica, kao i oporavku od pandemije Covid-19 koja je najviše pogodila sektor turizma.
U skladu s gore navedenim, ovaj Javni poziv za podnošenje prijedloga projekata se odnosi na sljedeće 2 prioritetne oblasti:

Poboljšanje uslova i proširenje kapaciteta turističkih smještajnih objekata duž staza Via Dinarice unutar sljedećih jedinica lokalne samouprave: Bosanski Petrovac, Gacko, Jablanica, Mrkonjić Grad, Posušje, Prozor-Rama, Rudo, Sokolac i Teslić.
Prioritetna oblast 2:
Unapređenje postojećih i povećanje raznolikosti turističkih usluga u oblasti turizma u prirodi (kulturnog, istorijskog, sportsko-rekreativnog i avanturističkog turizma i slično) duž staza Via Dinarice unutar sljedećih jedinica lokalne samouprave: Bosanski Petrovac, Gacko, Jablanica, Mrkonjić Grad, Posušje, Prozor-Rama, Rudo, Sokolac i Teslić.
Podnosilac prijave može podnijeti maksimalno jedan projektni prijedlog po svakoj prioritetnoj oblasti ovog javnog poziva.
Ukoliko podnosilac prijave dostavi više od jednog projektnog prijedloga po prioritetnoj oblasti, nijedan projektni prijedlog se neće uzeti u razmatranje.

The Via Dinarica project today celebrates those who make our mountains safe, and these are the rescue teams of the mountain rescue services. UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina is developing a regional outdoor tourist destination - Via Dinarica. An important aspect of this destination is human sefety. Mountain rescue teams do what other emergency services simply cannot. Their work and commitment are amazing. Moreover, they do so voluntarily. Their skills and knowledge can save your life when you are unavailable to any other emergency service. That is why they are so important for safety on the Via Dinarica trails. On this day, through the Via Dinarica project, we awarded the equipment necessary for safety on the trails to the Mountain Rescue Service of Republika Srpska, the Mountain Rescue Service of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Association of Mountain Rescue Services in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Via Dinarica project is implemented and co-financed by the United Nations Development Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNDP BiH), with financial support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID BiH) and the Agency for Development Cooperation of the Republic of Italy (AICS).
With the highest mountains of the Dinaric Alps, Kosovo* and Albania have to be fully integrated into the Via Dinarica White Trail. In order to integrate both Kosovo* and Albania, the good practice and expertise will be obtained, and assessments conducted by adventure tourism expert. Therefore 200 km of new trail have to be GPS marked and at least 30 accommodation facilities recorded. The adventure tourism expert have the following Tasks and responsibilities:
Perform actions to collect information on existing trails and facilities.
Hike the trails of the Via Dinarica in Kosovo and Albania and determine the factual situation according to the established parameters (signalization, characteristics, passability)
Identify companies and service providers that operate along the route.
Conduct a series of structured and semi-structured interviews with companies, existing and potential customers,
Compare and analyse the existing capacities and potentials of adventure tourism in the respected areas.
Conduct field visits to identify attractions and service providers working along the trail and assess their current capacities and offerings.
Assist in the inclusion of new routes / tours, offers, products and services in the markets of mountain tourism through the web platform Via Dinarica.

Executive summary:
The project builds on existing Project Via Dinarica: Assessment and Capacity Development (Phase II) and through previous projects funded by UNDP.
Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) still struggle in achieving economic stability. Tourism, and in particular adventure tourism, has been identified by both local and international institutions as great potential tourism development in BiH. Job creation and income generation is a key factor in achieving that stability. Terra Dinarica aims to utilize the vast comparative advantages for BiH and the region in this field by developing the Via Dinarica as a mega brand that will be the foundation for broad, cross sector, environmentally sustainable development and job creation with a strong focus on vulnerable populations, such as women, elderly, youth and returnees in rural areas in the Dinaric region.
The project will be implemented over a 24 months span.
The project aims to provide follow-up on development activities on the White, Green and Blue Trails; to provide best practice and know – how on Via Dinarica trail assessment in Kosovo* and Albania; to promote and make visible all above mentioned through Via Dinarica web platform (OA - Outdooractive), and to gain Leading Quality Trail (LQT) – Best of Europe certificate for White Trail in BiH.
Therefore, above mentioned challenges will be addressed and goals achieved by:
Maintaining and improving the Via Dinarica trail infrastructure in BiH;
Identifying and assessing tourism stakeholders and resources along the Via Dinarica White trail in Kosovo* and Albania;
Promoting the Via Dinarica destination through OA web platform and social media channels;
Certifying the Via Dinarica White Trail in BiH under the LQT – Best of Europe quality certificate
Objective:
Kosovo* and Albania have begun to become an attractive adventure tourism destination. With the highest mountains of the Dinaric Alps, these two countries have to be fully integrated into the Via Dinarica White Trail. With its beautiful and untouched nature, rivers, lakes and mountains, Bosnia and Herzegovina holds tremendous potential for tourism. Until recently, this potential remained largely unfulfilled, mainly from a lack of strategic investment as the country struggled to shed its image as a post-war country.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has struggled with high unemployment for 25 years, especially among youth. The consequences of the past war, complex administrative structures, the disappearance of dozens of large companies and thousands of jobs continue to impede economic recovery. Micro, small and medium sized enterprises are seen as solutions for improving the quality of life and reversing the alarming trend of brain drain.
In recent years, tourism has been recognized as a driver of the economy, with potential to bring development especially to remote rural areas.
UNDP’s Via Dinarica project, a hiking route connecting seven countries and territories, is based on the shared idea that economic development and protection of the natural environment can and should go hand-in-hand. Appearing in National Geographic Travel, Vogue and numerous other international magazines, Via Dinarica successfully placed the focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina as an undiscovered and appealing destination for tourists. Investment in the tourism sector increased, and families in distant areas embraced the prospect of earning additional income by opening up new “destinations”.

The Slavojka Puhalo household located in a remote area of Kalinovik is now a well-known site on Via Dinarica, famous for its delicious domestically produced food, authentic experience and warm and generous hospitality. Slavojka started her own Bed & Breakfast business in 2015 and it soon became the most important source of income for her family, hosting visitors from around the world.
Then came the Coronavirus pandemic. As the health crisis turned into an economic one, their combined effect is set to leave deep scars across society.
Waking up in a travel-less world
Travel came to a halt, making tourism one of the hardest hit economic sectors globally. Between January and June 2020, the number of international tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina dropped by 71 percent, compared to same period last year. Simultaneously, the number of overnight stays by domestic tourists was halved.
Now, thousands of jobs in the tourism industry are at stake in Bosnia and Herzegovina as the entire region faces an economic crisis of unprecedented scale, with income from tourism dropping by close to 80 percent. What took a decade to develop in tourism has been almost completely shattered by five months of travel restrictions and pandemic fears. Families that invested their life savings to welcome tourists now fear they will lose everything.

Slobodan Brkić, who transformed a property on the Via Dinarica route, hopes that his business can survive. “Until the Covid-19 pandemic, tourism was a branch of the economy with constant growth,” he says. “We have to push through this year to survive. The problem will be after the summer, when not enough is earned to cover the winter expenses. We continue to work even though there is almost no income, no tourists.”
In coordination with international partners, UNDP has adapted existing programmes and launched a series of new interventions aimed at mitigating the impact the crisis has on the most vulnerable people. Tourism was targeted as one of the key areas of economic recovery, with a specific aim in mind: to now attract domestic tourists.
As a nature-based tourism initiative, Via Dinarica offers visitors the opportunity to spend their free time in a healthy environment where it is possible to maintain physical distance and at the same time visit interesting natural, cultural and historical tourism sites.
Through the project, UNDP partnered with 20 municipalities and cities, investing US$1 million in tourism services and infrastructural development with support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Agency for Development Cooperation of the Republic of Italy (AICS).
But it has to adapt to the new reality of tourism and the circumstances imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The social media campaign Via Dinarica Will Wait for You was launched in April, so that the tourism offers and brand could be sensitively communicated even during the lockdown period, to keep the interest of past and future visitors.
Adapting part of an ongoing economic and environmental programme, UNDP in partnership with the Swiss Government and the City of Bihać launched domestic tourist voucher subsidies. Each voucher has a value of BAM 200 (US$120), which is de facto a discount on accommodation payment in Bihać.

Strong emphasis is placed on digital marketing campaigns and online sales platforms to attract domestic tourists. A week after its release all of the ‘Rest in BiHać’ vouchers had sold out.
These immediate impact actions will be followed by grants to farmers, craftspeople and artisans along Via Dinarica in order to strengthen the domestic value chain. UNDP is providing technical assistance to help Via Dinarica providers adapt their businesses, maintaining the liquidity of operations, and adjusting their premises and services to the new epidemiological and health safety requirements in line with the best international practices.
Slavojka, for example, is now welcoming domestic guests only and hopes to host many more in the future.
As the entire tourism sector needs to adapt to the new reality of tourism and the circumstances imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, it is clear that a joint whole-of-government approach is required.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, UNDP and the relevant Ministries in Bosnia and Herzegovina have been discussing the pandemic consequences to tourism sector. UNDP is advising the government on an appropriate response to tourism sector recovery, particularly more resilient, digital, green-job oriented and effectively coordinated amongst relevant stakeholders.
UNDP supports the country to re-start in a strategic, sustainable and coordinated way, to protect those who are most vulnerable and to prevent a deterioration of the progress achieved over the past decades.

Kompletna dionica planinarske staze koja ide od Kašića do vrha Vito, i to preko Vranskih stijena, Lukomira i Bobovice u dužini od 40,5km je u potpunosti obnovljna. Staza je očišćena i markacija osvježena. Donosimo vam nekoliko fotografija sa radnih akcija koje su trajale u periodu od maja mjeseca. Na održavanju i obnovi ove dionice radiolo je Planinarsko društvo "Željezničar" iz Sarajeva. Inače ova dionica dio je Bijele staze Via Dinarica rute.
U periodu od marta do juna 2020. godine izvršena je obnova dijela Zelene staze Via Dinarica staza u banjalučkoj regiji, i to na dionici od vodopada Švrakave do Kamenog mosta. Na pomenutoj dionici urađeno je krčenje rastinja i uklanjanje oborenih stabala nakon zime, obnavljanje markacije, te korekcija postojeće trase. Radove su izveli licencirani markiraoci Jugoslav Vuković i Aleksandar Svitić iz planinarskod društva Kozara, Banja Luka.
One of the beautiful hiking adventures you can do while in BiH is to hike up Čvrsnica Mountain, the highest mountain of Herzegovina. Čvrsnica boasts many summits above 2000 m.a.s.l. and several plateaus. Its unique beauty attracts mountaineers from the whole region. Depending on your enthusiasm and fitness level you could go all the way to the famous Rebel’s Gate (2000 masl – 6 hr), to Tise (1380 masl – 3,5 hr) or, like me, you could just go to the Žlijeb viewpoint at 1090 masl (2 hr). The view, as well as the hike are rewarding wherever you decide to go.
Diva Grabovica ValleyThe hiking journey starts at Diva Grabovica Valley, some 35 km north of Mostar. Just drive the main M-17 road until you reach the turnoff point for HE Grabovica (hydroelectric power plant) where you cross the Neretva River. There is another 5 km to drive on macadam road until you reach the starting point with an information board at 250 masl. From there it is an 1.5 hr – 2 hr hike (quite seriously uphill though), but the journey is pleasant as you go through a beautiful beech and pine forest.
Flora and faunaBeing that the area is a natural boundary between the Mediterranean and continental climates you will find a very interesting mix of flora here. It abounds in the beautiful endemic Bosnian pine, dwarf pines, beech and hornbeam trees, and plateaus are filled with grass and juniper. Before the war the area was teaming with wildlife and throughout history hunting lodges were built here for famous kings and rulers including Tito. It used to be full of mouflon, chamois, bears and wolves. Unfortunately, the war destroyed much of wildlife. It is no longer a hunting zone and these animals are few and far between.
Come preparedThere are two water sources on the way to Žlijeb house and you should stock up, specially if you plan to spend the night there (which I really liked). There is no running water or electricity in the hut so plan accordingly. You should bring your own food, coffee as well as some candles, lighters and matches and I would advise some rakija as well. You will thank me at the magnificent viewpoint which is only 5 min from the hut.
Žlijeb mountain hutTo me Žlijeb hut feels like a ruggedly romantic little place where you can come with friends and spend the night around the fire telling stories or playing (listening to) music. It is a basic, but fully functional mountain hut that can fit 3 or 4 people downstairs and 5 people upstairs though you can stretch this a bit if you’re coming with friends. There is an inside and outside fireplace and an outdoor shower filled with rainwater. Bring sleeping bags and flash lights.
ViewpointOnly a few minutes away from the hut you will reach a viewpoint providing you with some stunning views of rocks and cliffs of Čvrsnica Mountain. There is a wooden bench just perfectly positioned for a grand view of the area. This is a place to bring out rakija :).
Final thoughtsIf you are not in a rush you could spend the night here and continue towards Tise or Rebel’s Gate in the morning or simply come back down the next day and chill in Mostar, Boračko or Blidinje Lake. Neither of these places are far away and you can check all the details on how to get there and what to see and do in my Boračko and Blidinje travel guides. Rebel’s Gate in itself is one of the highlights of BiH and of Via Dinarica (Stage 30: BH-W-05) and should not be missed, but unless you are a very experienced hiker I would recommend coming with a guide. For me, Tise and Rebel’s Gate adventure will wait for another time, hopefully soon.
The Žlijeb mountain hut is open, but there is always a possibility that it is full so leave enough time to return if that’s the case.When to go: April to October, though possible through the whole year.

Jelašca Village – a Bosnian Hobbiton
Where beautiful adventure begins
In one of the most remote areas of the Via Dinarica White Trail in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at over 1, 000 m.a.s.l. lies a Hobbiton-like, tiny village of Jelašca – a starting point for a great adventure.
Zelengora Mountain and its five ‘mountain eyes’
The whole mountain hike which includes three summits and five lakes over Zelengora and Lelija Mountains is only for the really fit and adventourus hikers. It would take you 14 hours to hike over 37 km of pretty challenging terrain (stage BH-W-11). The trail connects Zelengora and Maglić Mt. within Sutjeska National Park and continues further towards Durmitor NP in Montenegro. This trail over stunning Zelengora Mt. will take you to 5 out of 9 crystal clear lakes, known as ‘mountain eyes’: Štirinsko, Jugovo, Orlovačko, Gornje and Donje Bare Lake. The last of them (Donje Bare Lake) is famous as a place to spot a bear.
Lalović B&B
Thanks to the support of Via Dinarica, Lalović family, Milica and Dragoslav Lalović and their 3 lovely children, decided to provide shelter and food to the avid hikers walking this path. Dragoslav, a creative and enthusiastic carpenter made a cozy mountain hut and 5 bungalows with his own hands and plans to make more.
Etno museum
The whole place is like an etno museum filled with knick knacks from their family heritage. You can entertain yourself for hours learning about history and the way of life of their ancestors and Dragoslav is more than happy to share some of the stories with his guests. They started construction in 2016. and at the moment they can host 30 people, but they plan to continue building.
Home made and organic food
Lalović B&B also provides their guests with delicious home grown organic food. They have their own cows, chickens and sheep that provide them with meat and dairy products and a green house for veggies. Milica tells me that they are dedicated to health and don’t spray the garden with any chemicals. She also tells me how much her guests enjoy taking part in the whole rural household experience and love to work with her. You can enjoy the full experience of a mountain rural lifestyle if you like.
Making rakija
Naturally, they also make their own rakija (delicious fruit brandy made in the Balkans) and Dragoslav enthusiastically shows me the entire process. Making rakija is done in five main stages: harvest, preparation for fermentation, fermentation, distillation and aging & storage. In the process of distillation he is heating the fermented fruit to separate the alcohol from the water and pulp. Alcohol rises into the coils or pipes leading from the top of the still, then travels to the condenser to cool and then condenses into liquid. The purest rakija is found in the heart of the batch. The first ¼ or ½ liter is very potent, and can be poisonous. Traditional stills can be made from copper or steel and vary in size, shape and materials, and these are just part of the many elements that can influence the batch of rakija.
Coming back
Even though I just came for a day visit I feel sorry to leave without spending the night in one of the lovely bungalows, enjoying the full experience. For now I am happy to get a taste of this place, as well as some home made rakija. Finally, they generously fill my bags with their delicious dairy products and wish me farewell. I am certainly looking forward to coming back here for the full experience.

The continuation of the Via Dinarica project began with the activities of maintaining and establishing new Via Dinarica trails in Bosnia and Herzegovina. So far, most of the trail work has been done on the White Trail sections, in the area from Ljuta village to the Sutjeska National Park, i.e. on the BH-W-10 and BH-W-11 stages.Work on these trails have been actively run by the Mountaineering and Sports Association "Lelija" from Kalinovik, our partner in the development of the Via Dinarica route in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2015.
Led by club president Novak Govedarica, a team of volunteers worked on the trail maintenance and improvement, as well as well as on the new trail sections development along the Via Dinarica trail.

The old markings were restored and new ones added. Since this is a mountainous area with frequent fogs and mists, it was necessary to repeat the markings and add new ones for better visibility. A large section of the trail was cleared since a large number of trail markings were covered with shrubs and bushes. New poles have been installed on several locations as direction-poles on the trail.

The second phase of the Via Dinarica project is implemented and co-financed by the United Nations Development Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNDP BiH), with financial support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID BiH) and the Agency for Development Cooperation of the Republic of Italy (AICS). The second phase of this project is carried out in cooperation with local partners - the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the Ministry of Trade and Tourism of Republika Srpska, local authorities, as well as the non-governmental and private sectors active in tourism.
With the highest mountains of the Dinaric Alps, Kosovo* and Albania have to be fully integrated into the Via Dinarica White Trail. In order to integrate both Kosovo* and Albania, the good practice and expertise will be obtained, and assessments conducted by adventure tourism expert.
Therefore 200 km of new trail have to be GPS marked and at least 30 accommodation facilities recorded.
The adventure tourism expert have the following Tasks and responsibilities:
Conduct desk studies to gather information on existing trails and capacities.
Identify businesses and service providers operating along the trail.
Conduct a series of structured and semi-structured interviews with companies, existing and potential customers, local and international tourists.
Conduct comparisons and analysis of existing capacities and adventure tourism potential in the respected areas.
Conduct field visits in order to identify attractions and service providers operating along the trail and evaluate their current capacities and offer.
Assist on inclusion of new routes/tours, offers, products and services to mountain tourism markets via Via Dinarica web platform.

Executive summary:
The project builds on existing Project Via Dinarica: Assessment and Capacity Development (Phase II) and through previous projects funded by UNDP.
Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) still struggle in achieving economic stability. Tourism, and in particular adventure tourism, has been identified by both local and international institutions as great potential tourism development in BiH. Job creation and income generation is a key factor in achieving that stability. Terra Dinarica aims to utilize the vast comparative advantages for BiH and the region in this field by developing the Via Dinarica as a mega brand that will be the foundation for broad, cross sector, environmentally sustainable development and job creation with a strong focus on vulnerable populations, such as women, elderly, youth and returnees in rural areas in the Dinaric region.
The project will be implemented over a 24 months span.
The project aims to provide follow-up on development activities on the White, Green and Blue Trails; to provide best practice and know – how on Via Dinarica trail assessment in Kosovo* and Albania; to promote and make visible all above mentioned through Via Dinarica web platform (OA - Outdooractive), and to gain Leading Quality Trail (LQT) – Best of Europe certificate for White Trail in BiH.
Therefore, above mentioned challenges will be addressed and goals achieved by:
Maintaining and improving the Via Dinarica trail infrastructure in BiH;
Identifying and assessing tourism stakeholders and resources along the Via Dinarica White trail in Kosovo* and Albania;
Promoting the Via Dinarica destination through OA web platform and social media channels;
Certifying the Via Dinarica White Trail in BiH under the LQT – Best of Europe quality certificate

Complex of travertine waterfalls in Martin Brod at Una National Park, which is part of the Via Dinarica Green Trail in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is currently at the UNESCO tentative list. Martin Brod harbours the largest complex of waterfalls in the Una National park, with once numerous watermills and bučnica´s – natural-eco laundry. Milančev buk waterfall is one of the sequent waterfalls and cascades which are spread throughout the entire village of Martin Brod all the way to the Unac’s confluence with the Una. This 800-meter-long sequence of waterfalls and cascades with a vertical drop of 54 meters is the largest and longest waterfalls complex in the Una National park.

If you wish to experience a real adventure, enjoy pristine nature of Dinaric Alps, and get to know some of the Via Dinarica trails in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we invite you to apply to the Via Dinarica camp. Activities and skills you will acquire during this camp include maintaining the trail, sleeping in tents, building campfire, orienteering, and cartography. The camp will take place from April 20 to May 2 2018 at some of the most beautiful locations along the Via Dinarica White Trail in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Would you like to have some good time at mountains of Sutjeska National Park?
Your age is not of great importance, but please take into account that the terrain will be demanding. However, you have time until April to prepare :). Participants are required to bring standard mountaineering equipment. Additional equipment and tools will be provided. Accommodation and food will be provided by the organizer. Participants cover their travel expenses. Participants will be accommodated in mountain huts and shelters, households and tents (depending on capacity at specific locations). Deadline for applying is February 15, 2018, and number of participants is limited to 50. After the selection process, participants will be informed about details concerning the camp. Participants are required to pay a deposit, which will be refunded upon arrival. The purpose of the deposit is to guarantee participation, so that the organizer would not have to bear excess costs due to cancellations. The Conference Via Dinarica - a platform for sustainable tourism development and local economic growth in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held on the occasion of the celebration of the International Mountain Day in Sarajevo on 11 December 2017. Improvements of the tourist offer throughout the country were presented and attention was drawn to the importance of sustainable tourism development for a better life of all people in BiH, especially residents of country’s rural and remote locations. Via Dinarica is an initiative of USAID and UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina with a total value of US $ 1.6 million and is implemented in partnership with: Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ministry of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ministry of Trade and Tourism of Republika Srpska. The goal of the Via Dinarica project is to contribute to the reduction of economic, social and regional disparities in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the affirmation of Via Dinarica as the unique regional tourist destination of the Dinaric Arc countries. Mirko Šarović, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, emphasized that the Via Dinarica project is an incentive for everyone in BiH to invest more in tourism. "I have to say that investments in tourism are small and we lag behind countries of the region. I believe that this is a chance to take a closer look at this important sector, which can be the engine of the economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I think we need to build the perception of BiH as a country that is a desirable tourist destination. Tourism should be integrated in all cantonal, entity, and state-level plans, must be part of all reform agendas and all the budget plans - in order to make that key step forward and earn the first billion from tourism in BiH," Minister Šarović emphasized. "Via Dinarica is a unique project because it naturally connects people of the Balkans, tourists from all over the world with BiH, as well as people with nature," said Sezin Sinanoglu, Resident Representative of UNDP in BiH. "Since 2015, exceptional success has been achieved. The living standard of tourist service providers in rural areas has been improved, as thanks to education and investment in better capacities they can provide better services to all visitors." Sinanoglu emphasized that very successful and strong partnership with the authorities at all levels was achieved through Via Dinarica Project. The uniqueness of the Project was recognized by the world's prestigious world media such as The Guardian, Lonely Planet, Outside, The Vogue, and National Geographic Traveler, the last of which has classified this destination as one of the best places in the world to visit in 2017. The USAID Mission's Office of Economics Director Andrew Boegel believes that this project is remarkable. "The project has contributed to the development of the local community, the enterprises, the creation of new jobs and the marking of the thousands of kilometers, which emphasized the great potential BiH and tourism have," Bogel said. "This project is developing sports-adventure and eco-tourism, which are the two fastest growing branches of tourism in the world and even in BiH," said Edita Đapo, Minister of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. the project has led to economic strengthening of people in local communities, in mountains and in rural areas, enabling people to remain in these areas and to live up to their work. "The FBiH Government has recognized the importance of this project and has supported it with 300,000 KM in the last two years. I hope that this project will also find institutional, political and financial support to continue with its realization," added Minister Đapo.
Predrag Gluhaković, Trade and Tourism Minister of Republika Srpska, said: "From an economic point of view, this project is of immense importance because Via Dinarica contributes to economic development through employment of the local population as well as increase of accommodation capacities in rural areas and increase of tourist services in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina. " The film premiered on the film about Via Dinarica and opened an exhibition of photographs of the most beautiful landscapes of this corridor. Also presented are the Via Dinarica web portal and mobile application, and the special edition of the Bradt Travel Guide dedicated to the so-called. the white path of Via Dinarica in BiH. The panel discussions discussed with local and regional partners about possible ways of further development of the Via Dinarica initiative based on past experience.

A couple of tour operators and a travel blogger - journalist from Finland, visited Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) this week, and explored some of Via Dinarica trails, aiming to inform Finnish tourists about this destination, and prepare attractive programs for them. Via Dinarica corridor consists of the three main Trails – Green, Blue and White. The Green Trail follows the lower forest belt of the Dinaric Alps, and the Blue Trail goes across the coastal Dinarides with a magnificent view of the Adriatic Sea. The White Trail follows the highest limestone peaks of the Dinaric Alps, that are covered in snow most of the time. During their 5-day trip, a group from Finland had a chance to explore the Via Dinarica, an area that is yet to be discovered by many hikers and cyclists. On this adventure, they found a playground for active travelers on the Via Dinarica: exciting trails, amazing views, colorful wildflowers, and welcoming culture. “I think that (Via Dinarica) is unique. There is no such a thing anywhere else in the world, it’s fantastic. I think it’s something many people and countries would like to have, but they can’t. It’s the most amazing hiking trail in the world. It’s a place where not so many have been to, and that matters to Finns. It’s a place that is a really well-kept (tourist) secret, and that is something that attracts us,” said Ms. Marinnella “Nella” Himari, a travel blogger and journalist from Finland. Ms. Himari writes stories about Via Dinarica in her travel blog and in the major outdoor magazines in Finland. She visited Bosnia and Herzegovina for the third time and she keeps returning: “I don’t know what is magical in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but there is something that not so many countries have, (…) and that’s why I am coming back all the time.”
The Finnish tour operators and a blogger hiked in the great Dinaric Alps - undiscovered by tourists, and saw spectacular limestone peaks and caves. They experienced the wilderness of Sutjeska National Park, a stunning area located at the heart of the Dinaric Alps, and visited Perućica, one of Europe’s last remaining Primeval forests. The Finns visited Lukomir Highland Village on the Olympic mountain of Bjelašnica, cycled around the Blidinje glacier lake, walked over the old Ottoman Mostar Bridge, rafted the emerald waters of the Neretva river, and visited Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital Sarajevo. The Finnish tourism experts believe that cultural heritage, historic places, beautiful nature and affordable prices are the key things, which would attract Finnish tourist to Bosnia and Herzegovina. “I’ve done a lot of tracks and hikes around the world, but I got very excited when I saw pictures and heard about Via Dinarica. It is definitely a world class hiking and tracking area,” said Mr. Mikka Ukkonen, representative of the Finish tour operator Mandala Travel. He plans to bring Finish tourists to Via Dinarica trails: “Our plan is to offer more tours in the Balkans, and we can easily offer active tourism with hiking tours around the major culture sites on Via Dinarica. I think the selling points would be pristine nature, unique warm culture, good food, very welcoming people, and no mass tourism, (…) so you have a feeling of exploration.” “I think there are a lot of different things to see (on Via Dinarica). We don’t have mountains in Finland, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina there are great mountain ranges, a lot of almost untouched nature to be seen, clear rivers, good fishing, rafting, canoeing, climbing, tracking and a lot of cultural and historic attractions throughout the country,” said Mr. Tatu Kullberg, representative of the Finish tour operator Aventura, and elaborated: “The Balkans is a still unknown (tourist) destination, but I think there is an interest for the Balkans, it’s becoming more and more popular destination.” The tour for tour operators and a travel blogger - journalist from Finland was organized within the scope of the “Via Dinarica: A Platform for Sustainable Tourism Development and Local Economic Growth” Project, which aims at the development of potentials of the Dinaric Alps’ corridor and its promotion. It has been designed to reduce economic, social, and regional disparities in Bosnia and Herzegovina through promotion of Via Dinarica as a regional tourism attraction and to increase Bosnia and Herzegovina’s standing in the competitive nature-based tourism sphere. Via Dinarica Project aims to support the process of establishing the Via Dinarica corridor as a tourist product that provides sustainable livelihoods for a broad spectrum of stakeholders in local communities along the trail. “The arrival of the Finnish tour operators is a step towards expanding the market of Via Dinarica as an international outdoor destination. Moreover, the FAM/Press trip is an opportunity to local tour agencies, with networks of other service providers in BiH, to connect with international tour operators and journalist to promote and sell the Via Dinarica. Adopt a Trail Program
Do you or your company consider yourselves to be socially responsible? Are you looking for a tangible, effective and affordable way to give back to local communities in a sustainable manner that will make a lasting impact?
The Via Dinarica is a mega-trail that extends through the entire Dinaric Alps from Slovenia to Albania. National Geographic has named it as one of the best new destinations in the world for 2017. We want to make sure that the Via Dinarica lives up to its name! If you or your company consider yourselves to be socially responsible and looking for a tangible, effective and affordable way to give back to local communities that will make a lasting impact, our program might be something for you. The Via Dinarica needs your help to sustain as one of the key locomotives to the development the Dinaric Alps region. In order to promote sustainability and support the local communities benefitting from the Via Dinarica, the trail needs to be maintained and prepared for every season to ensure safety and access to visitors and domestic hikers alike. This difficult work is usually conducted by selfless volunteers from various hiking clubs throughout the region. More often than not they have to supply their own tools and materials to keep the trails in good shape. We’re aiming to help them do their volunteer work even better.
With the generous support of UNDP and USAID in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the EU, GIZ and local institutions in other countries, most of the hiking trails have been marked and signposts placed. However, maintenance of trail infrastructure remains an open issue in most places.
Maintenance and preparation of the trails is a serious responsibility. Every spring the trails need to be cleared of branches and rocks, landslides or wash-off need fixing, and markings refreshed. Sometimes signposts are damaged by weather or animals and need replacing. Unfortunately, trees with trail markers are occasionally cut down by loggers. All these issues need to be fixed promptly.
Most hikers and tourists are not aware how much work stands behind properly maintained trails in popular hiking destinations. Most places have institutional support or mechanisms in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of hikers. Our region struggles with resources to keep up this type of support…and that’s why we’ve developed this concept to create a sustainable support system that is beneficial to all.
So, how can you help?
You, as an individual or socially responsible company, can also take a part in maintaining the Via Dinarica trails and the Via Dinarica initiative by adopting a section of the trail. You can also adopt a shelter or support the work of the Via Dinarica support center.
How to adopt a trail?
Maintenance of the trail and accompanying infrastructure costs about 60 euros per kilometer per year. Simply pick a number of non-adopted kilometers of the trail to financially support Via Dinarica for a year, OR in order to adopt a section, just click the link ADOPT A TRAIL from the selected Via Dinarica section.
How do you know that trail will actually be maintained?
In order to guarantee accountability and reliability for your assistance we will send each sponsor a short report each year on the activities along your adopted section of the trail. Also, any registered individual on the trail.viadinarica.com site can rate and leave a comment and/or describe the current conditions at the trail. Inspected spots can be marked on the map and photos uploaded to the site. These reviews cannot be controlled by site administrators and are placed on the heading photo on each trail description as seen below:
The reviews are published automatically on the Via Dinarica site, but also on several other channels of the Outdooractive platform, the largest outdoor portal in Europe. When someone reports on a trail conditions, the Via Dinarica support centre is alerted by e-mail. Local volunteers will be informed to check on reported condition and provide feedback. The report will not be removed from the site, but followed by the response from the field. This ensures that the entire history of interventions will be always be visible on the site. It is a highly transparent and efficient system!
How would people know that you have adopted the trail and supported Via Dinarica?
Those who adopt a section of the trail will be listed on the supporters’ page and among the partners.
Those companies and individuals supporting maintenance of sections and stages enjoy following benefits:
1. On-site plaques (15x 20 cm) with the name and/or logo of the sponsor with desired inscriptions will be place on the trail on signposts or other location on at least each fourth kilometer along particular section.
2. The trail description includes remarks about and link to sponsors website (if applicable). In case the sponsor adopts an entire stage of the Via Dinarica trail, the author’s avatar can be replaced with the sponsors logo.
3. Number of photos from the trail are stamped by adopter’s logo and inscription supported by.
4. All sponsors are listed as partners and are included in the stories and blogs section to the particular section of the trail that you adopted.
How many people walk along this trails and who will actually see it? How about visits to viadinarica.com site?
Although many aspects of the project and the trail are still under development, the Via Dinarica popularity has been on the rise. During our first year in 2016 our content was displayed through our partners network, Outdooractive.com, more than 5,5 million times. Small print-out booklets and GPS tracks were downloaded over 5000 times.
The Via Dinarica has been listed among the top destinations in Europe and the world by several well-known publications. The Guardian included Via Dinarica tour among the 10 best holidays in Europe. Vogue recommends the Mountain Travel Sobek journey along the Via Dinarica as a top honeymoon trip, but also as the one of 9 destinations every woman should visit in 2017. Lonely Planet has regularly written about us and the German Geo lists Via Dinarica as a top trend destination. The most prestige recognition, however, was inclusion of Via Dinarica among the best travel destinations for 2017 by National Geographic Traveler. So our visibility and popularity continue to increase which makes it more important than ever to make sure we live up to the high quality expectations of international guests.

The Via Dinarica is more than just a trail. It is a one of a kind product that connects communities and pristine nature that represents the backbone of one the last European wilderness corridors. If you wish to experience real adventure, to enjoy the untouched nature of Dinaric Alps, and get to know some of the Via Dinarica trails in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we are inviting you to apply for the Via Dinarica camp. Cleaning and maintaining the trail, sleeping in tents, camp fire, orienteering, and carthographie are some of the activities and skills you can acquire during this camp, from 21st april to 2nd may 2017 on some of the most beautiful locations of the Via Dinarica White trail. How do you feel about visiting Prenj, Čvrsnica, the area of the river Rakitnica and the National Park of Sutjeska? Age is not that important, but you have to count on rather difficult terrains. However you have time for a training and preparation until April. Participants are required to have standard hiking equipement with them, and the other equipement and tools will be provided. Accomodation and food are covered by the organizer but participants are responsible for their travel expenses. Participants will be accomodated in the mountain huts and shelters, households and tents (depending of the accomodation capacity at the specific location). The deadline for the aplication is 15.02.2017., and the maximal number of participants is 50.
After the selection, the chosen candidates will be informed about the details concerning the camp. Selected candidates are required to pay a deposit, which will be refunded to them upon the arrival to the camp. The payment of the deposit is a guaranty that the chosen candidates will come and participate, so that the organizer wouldn't have excess costs due to cancellations of candidates.

Prestigious National Geographic Traveler included Via Dinarica Trail amongst world’s best destinations in 2017. Via Dinarica, mega-mountaineering and hiking trail, connecting natural and cultural sights in Dinarids, is recognized and acknowledged as a great chance and potential for development, especially for Bosnia and Herzegovina. This wonderful news was published late last night in National Geographic website. Complete article will be available in print magazines across the World in the end of this month in special edition National Geographic Traveler Best of the World.
This way, including Via Dinarica in "Travellers 21 Best of the World" programme, National Geographic Traveler, except from recognizing Balkan's natural beauties, acknowledged all organizations, mountain clubs and unions, mountaineers, adventurers and all other enthusiasts devoted to this concept in past several years.
In Terra Dinarica, coordinating Via Dinarica organization in BH, outline that this prestigious acknowledgement is a result of persistent, hard, but also visionary work of partnering organizations, volunteers network and support of international development agencies, UNDP and USAID in B&H. It is important to notice that Bosnia and Herzegovina is the first in region that prepared and marked all stages of Via Dinarica White Trail going through this country, officially opened in Blidinje this year in June.
Via Dinarica is not only chance for development, but also our reality and confirmed fact, say in Terra Dinarica. Due to this, it is necessary to encourage local governments and partnering organizations to give even bigger efforts to preserve natural heritage in BH, which can be and has to be used in sustainable manner that secures economic prosper to local people.

I hiked more than 1200K through 4 different countries and added another 300K in Slovenia. The original Via Dinarica White Trail follows the Javorniki mountain range from Snežnik to Postojna. Although the forest up there is one of a kind, I decided to spend a bit more time in Slovenia, made a detour and set out an more ˝scenic route˝ through the beautiful Green Karst landscape. The last part of my Via Dinarica journey started in Ilirska Bistrica from where I headed back into the mountains, to Mašun, Sviščakih and Snežnik. I was blessed with fantastic weather. Cold, sunny and colorful. Autumn at its best.

After Slovenia’s highest non-Alpine mountain I decended to the municipality of Loška Dolina, at the foot of Snežnik mountain. Instead of hiking through the forest for the next few days, I stayed in this valley to see the other (in)side of Slovenian Dinaric Karst. Caves, sinkholes disappearing lakes and rivers, but also the culture that the mountains bring along. It’s an interesting rural area that in a way is still isolated from the big-city-influences. Loška Dolina has it’s own slang and own traditions. Dormouse hunting in order to survive the long, cold winters for example!

The temperature dropped significantly, even in the valleys it was below zero at night so I thought it was a good idea to visit one of Slovenia’s coldest places, the Bloke Plateau… A perfect moment to change my little green house for a sweet wooden hut. Glamping!

At this point I was much further up north than I expected, I wanted to hike around Cerkniško Jezero and go up Veliki Javornik, but this would mean many more kilometres. I changed my plan and continued to Cerknica, said hi to the witches on Slivnica and found out that with my northern variant, I avoided the Bura that blew on the Javorniki mountainrange. Haha, ˝elk nadeel heb zijn voordeel˝ – Johan Cruijff.

Cerkniško Jezero: ˝More than just a lake˝, it’s a mystical disappearing lake
I took my time in Notranjska Regional Park to learn more about this beautiful Karst region, paid a visit to the Museum of Lake Cerknica and hiked along river Rak in Rakov Škocjan. When I arrived at Predjamski Grad, I reached the end of my route, but it didn’t feel like a finish. There was one more mountain which was absolutely impossible to ignore. Nanos.

On Nanos I looked back. Poehh, this is it! Wow, I made it. I did it. I hiked the Via Dinarica!

Or a new beginning…
After a little break in Ljubljana I hopped back on a bus. The bus to Vipava, a little town on the other side of Nanos. I couldn’t get enough those mountains and I couldn’t deal with the fact it was over. A few more days… And I started to hike back, exploring and searching. For what? Something I might never find, but I enjoy doing!

Development projects of all sorts tend to be long processes where visible results don’t necessarily appear for years. The Via Dinarica, however, is a different story...and it’s one that is rapidly catching fire across the Dinaric region and within the international adventure travel industry. The Via Dinarica has been recognized by an impressive entourage of international press, from the Best New Trail in the World award in 2014 from Outside Magazine to The Guardian’s top European Adventure Destinations for 2016. After the official opening of the White Trail last May in Blidinje Nature Park in West Bosnia, spearheaded by the Sarajevo-based NGO Terra Dinarica, the lengthy spine of the Dinaric Alps officially opened its doors to the world. Although there is still work to be done, this launch has spurred a handful of hard-cores to trek the entire 1,350 km length of the Via Dinarica White Trail from Slovenia to Albania this summer. But the trail has been created to ensure that there is something for everyone. For novice and pro alike, the Via Dinarica White Trail has no shortage of activities ranging from challenging hiking and biking routes to leisurely walks accessible to families with kids. The arrival of autumn has in no way slowed the biking and hiking season on the Via Dinarica. Terra Dinarica and their counterpart in Croatia, Via Dinarica Croatia, have initiated the first International Via Dinarica Day on October 8-9. It’s a day for nature lovers from the wider Dinaric region to strap up their boots and head out to the great outdoors. The International Via Dinarica Day is more a call of the wild than an event. Hikers, bikers, climbers, cavers, runners, and campers are encouraged to go and enjoy any section of the world’s newest mega-trail and share their stories, videos and photos of their weekend with Mother Nature.
