Rough. Raw. Invigorating. Maja Jezerce is the Prokletije’s and, in fact, the entire Via Dinarica’s highest peak. It is not one to be reckoned with. The mountain is bare with limited vegetation. The approach north of Theth from Vermosh is a long and challenging one that required sleeping under the stars. Being that it was Keno and Elma’s first camping experience of the journey, they picked a green patch in the midst of the moon-like landscape to call home for the night. The following day they would summit to their highest altitude of the entire trip at 2,694 m (8,839 ft).

Maja Jezerce rears her head above the Valbona and Shala Valleys. Being only 5 clicks from Montenegro many choose to Gusinje access to the peak. From the Albanian side, Theth is the most common launch spot to stand atop of the Accursed Mountain range.

Elma celebrated with one of her trademark peak headstands.
