ADVENTURE AWAITS
In western Bosnia, south of Bihać, lies the Una National Park, one of the four national parks in our country. On a surface area of 20,000 hectares, unimaginable natural treasures unfold. It’s so vast that it seems as if Mother Nature prepared it for several places and then, all at once, released everything here. And everything flourished: forests, waters, and wildlife.
Here thrives the magical river Una, the one and only, as the Romans called it, astonished by its beauty. For decades, it’s been a fixture on the calendars of regatta enthusiasts from across the globe. It’s hard to say whether Štrbački or Milančev Buk is more beautiful. Štrbački Buk, standing at 24.5 meters, is the tallest waterfall in the park, louder and more robust — a raucous cascade throwing water and foam in all directions.
Open year-round, the park requires an entrance fee for all visitors except those named Una, who can gain free access by presenting their identification documents.
A pathway stretching hundreds of meters, with wooden stairs and handrails, allows visitors easier access to the captivating waterfall, while small observation points along the path offer a better view and an overview of other attractions in the park.

Milančev Buk in Martin Brod is a quiet gentleman who has no need to flaunt his strength, as his greatness speaks for itself. It’s part of a series of many waterfalls that stretch through the village to the confluence of Unac into Una. With a total length of 800 meters and a height difference of 54 meters, this represents the largest expanse of waterfalls in the national park.
Close to the trail leading to Milančev Buk, you’ll find the well-equipped picnic area Lučica, offering camping, fishing, and hiking opportunities along marked paths — Marta’s Trail and Putem pod gredu (Path Under the Beam).
Martin Brod is on the tentative UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) list, and the Una National Park has launched an initiative for the inclusion of Štrbački Buk as well.
Martin Brod has more tourist attractions. In Gornje Selo (Upper Village), you’ll find a natural, ecological washing machine called bučnica (loudmouth). Over 300 years old, bučnica has seven speeds and washes without laundry detergent, thanks to a large reservoir of pure and oxygen-rich water that, in a barrel with perforations, generates a centrifuge.

Kulen Vakuf is the largest settlement in the national park. Throughout history, it has served as a crucial crossroads. Above it, on the left side of the Una River and its tributary Ostrovica, looms the eponymous medieval and Ottoman fortress — Ostrovica. In the Middle Ages, Ostrovica was the most fortified town in the upper course of the Una River.
Abundant with waterfalls, cascades, and rapids, the Una River is a real treat for fans of rafting and kayaking. Rafting services in the national park are provided by authorized rafting agencies, with trained and licensed skippers, and registered boats.
