THE WOODS OF REMEMBRANCE
The beautiful nature, the valuable archaeological remains from the Middle and Old Ages, and the Monument to the Revolution on Mrakovica make the Kozara National Park a shining gem in the crown of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The fate of this beauty was determined by World War II. Kozara became famous for the battle for the freedom of the people in this region. After the war, its forests were recognized as forests of historical significance and the area was designated as a national park in 1967.
In the central part of the park there is a Memorial Complex consisting of a museum, a monument, and a maze of concrete pathways and passages bearing the names of 9,921 victims of the Battle of Kozara, built in 1972.

Besides its role in teaching history, the park offers opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, biking, skiing, and enjoying the Adventure Park. The park also features three vertical via ferratas with a total length of 116 meters.
Four cycling routes of varying lengths and difficulty levels have been mapped and marked: red, green, blue, and yellow. In addition to these, there is the Mrakovica Memorial Trail, marked only with hiking signs but suitable for cyclists as well. Mountain bikes can be rented. Electric bicycles and mopeds are also available.
Hiking is the best way to explore Kozara National Park. There are 16 well-maintained and marked hiking trails, with 11 of them featuring not only hiking signs but also signposts and information boards. Benches and picnic areas are set up along their lengths.
Accommodation options include a motel, bungalows, and the oldest and largest mountain lodge in Kozara — Kotlovača, managed by the Klekovača Mountaineering Society.
